Best foods for dieting and snacking to improve metabolism?

Just wondering what the typical grocery list should look like for me and my fiance? We are a young couple trying to get healthy, and even though we have read a lot of books on health, we tend to get bored with diet food suggestions. All we seem to eat anymore is chicken, fish, brown rice, cottage cheese and spinach greens. We try to eat small portions several times a day to increase our metabolism, but eating the same thing everyday has left us frustrated and craving those unhealthy potato chips and chocolate bars. We drink plenty of water, but even that can dull your taste buds and cause cravings for soda and highly sweetend teas.

I’ve heard popcorn with light butter and no salt is a good alternative, as well as some sugar free flavored waters, but don’t they just substitute the sugar and no salt with other bad ingredients to make up for the taste? Help!
